The gateway to the Salmo-Priest wilderness area is pristine Priest Lake. This resort community affords visitors and residents some of the most breathtaking scenery found anywhere. Whether picking huckleberries, fishing, hiking, or snowmobiling, you will have the time of your lives. Great dining and lakeside resorts make this a must see ... must stay opportunity.
During the winter months one will find some of the finest snowmobiling trails found in the Pacific Northwest. Miles and miles of groomed trails as well as wide open vertical terrain for the adventurous of heart. Deep snow and mild conditions make this an area favorite for sled enthusiasts.
In summer the focus turns to fishing, camping and of course huckleberry picking. Priest Lake is loaded with Mackinaw (Lake Trout), Westslope Cutthroat, and Rainbow trout. In addition one may find a batch of perch to compliment the evening fish fry.
There are numerous areas to camp both on Lower Priest Lake as well as the more secluded and remote Upper Priest. Taking a canoe to Upper Priest offers campers un-compromised beauty and privacy. There are several trails for those wishing to explore the surrounding landscapes.
Huckleberry picking has become a prime area activity in the summer. Take a hike into the hills and fill your bucket with prime purple berries. Most of the area resorts offer numerous huckleberry products including jams, jellies, and of course our favorite.....huckleberry pie with vanilla ice cream. Make plenty of noise while you are picking......our friends the bears like them as well.
